Two women arrested for hiding gold under clothes

Customs officials at RGI Airport seized 2.36 kg of gold from two women who were trying to smuggle it by concealing them in their undergarme­nts. The officials seized 2 kg from one woman and 366 grams from the other. The gold is worth around `71 lakh. This is the third catch at the airport in April so far.

Customs officials said the two passengers came from Jeddah in a Saudi Airlines flight on Wednesday. While proceeding for security check officials noticed that they were moving suspicious­ly. They intercepte­d the women and sent them for questionin­g.

During questionin­g they claimed that they were not carrying any dutiable goods but when they were subjected to metal detector test they admitted that they were carrying gold bars in their undergarme­nts.

On April 11, a passenger from Saudi Arabia was caught smuggling gold by concealing it in an electric iron box. Gold weighing 247 grams worth Rs 7.22 lakh was seized from him. On April 3, a passenger from Dubai carrying 350 grams of gold buttons worth Rs 10 lakh in a gas regulator was arrested.
