Debts drive farmer to death

Hyderabad: A 33-year-old farmer committed suicide due to debts at Upperguda. The deceased, Y. Aliaiah, consumed pesticide at his home. Based on a complaint by his wife, police booked a case. The body was sent for post-mortem. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) said the number of suicides by farmers in Telangana in 2015 was 1,358 against 516 in AP. In 2014 TS stood second with 898 suicides by farmers while AP was sixth with 160 suicides. The report said the highest number of 3,030 suicides was registered in Maharashtr­a followed by Karnataka, Chhattisga­rh and MP reporting 1,197, 854 and 581 cases respective­ly.
