KID LOCKED IN HOUSE FOR 5 DAYS RESCUED

- DC CORRESPONDENT KURNOOL, APRIL 20

In a shocking case of guardian brutality, a 12-year-old boy spent 120 hours in solitary confinement without any access to cooked food and water.

Rehan was confined by his uncle and aunt at Nandyal of Kurnool district. He survived by eating uncooked rice, dal and sugar.

On Thursday morning, he called out for help through ventilator grills and the locals informed the cops. The police rushed to the spot, broke open the door and rescued the boy.

Nandyal Three Town circle inspector S. Ismail said they received a call from residents of Sai Baba Nagar stating that a boy was confined at a house and was seeking help.

With the help of locals, the police broke open the lock of the house and freed the boy.

Rehan is a native of Kadiri in Anantapur district. He was being brought up by his aunt Salma, the younger sister of his mother, after the death of his parents Baba and Reshma a year ago.

He told the police that on Sunday, his aunt Salma and her husband Suleiman locked him in the house and did not return. Not knowing what to do, he climbed up to the window and sought help, he said.

The police informed his relatives at Kadiri and Rehan would be handed over to them, the CI stated. Police filed a case under Sections 347 and 307 IPC and initiated an investigation, the CI said. Both Salma and Suleiman are absconding.
