Atwal best placed Indian at tied 16th

New Delhi: Arjun Atwal overcame a closing bogey to be the best placed Indian at tied 16th at the end of the first round of the Panasonic Open in Noda City, Japan, on Thursday. Atwal, was cruising at threeunder through 17 holes after starting from the tenth, before the bogey on ninth, his final hole. S. Chikkarang­appa was tied 29th. S.S.P. Chawrasia was three-under through 10 holes, before a double bogey and a bogey saw him end the day at even par and tied 36th. Of the other Indians, Rashid Khan (71) was tied 36th, Gaganjeet Bhullar and Shiv Kapur with 72s were tied 60th. America’s Jason Knutzon took the first round lead with a seven-under-par 64.
