TECHNICAL SNAG SEES POWER CUT IN TWIN CITIES

People in many areas of the twin cities witnessed frequent interruptions in the power supply on Tuesday.

The interruptions were caused by a technical problem at the Hussainsagar 132/33 KV substation. In some areas, there was no power for an hour. Officials of the Southern Power Distribution Company (SPDCL) restored the power supply by evening. Two 15-year-old cables were damaged, as a result of which the supply to Saifabad, Tank Bund, Sultan Bazaar, Nizam College, Khairatabad, and Hider Guda was interrupted.

Vidyut Soudha, the TS TRANSCO headquarters also experienced interruptions. G. Raghuma Reddy, the chairman and managing director of SPDCL, K. Srinivasa Reddy, the director of operations, and Sriram Nayak, the chief engineer rushed to the substation and instructed officials to rectify the problem and restore the power supply at the earliest.

Mr K. Srinivasa Reddy said that some old cables at the Hussainsagar 132/33 substation had gotten punctured, but power supply had been restored by the evening. He added that they had taken on the task of replacing all the old cables with new cables.

Though the power supply was diverted to other substations during the repair so as not to inconvenience people, some areas did not have power for almost an hour. Ironically, K.T. Rama Rao, the minister for municipal administration and IT, announced on Tuesday that power supply would not be interrupted for even a blink of an eye, but people in the twin cities people experienced interruptions from morning to evening.
