175 V-Cs to attend city conference
Vice-chancellors from 175 universities in India and foreign countries would attend the All-India ViceChancellors Conference, which is being held as part of Osmania University’s Centennial celebrations.
They are expected to discuss issues relating to higher education in the country.
The vice-chancellors conference is organised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) every year in different parts of the country.
The conference is being held in Hyderabad as this year is the 100th year of Osmania University.
The conference inauguration will be held on April 27 evening. The next day, the top officials will take part in technical sessions to be held at IICT Auditorium, and Regional Centre for Urban and Environment Studies (RCUES).
According to Prof. Y. Pardhasaradhi, one of the conveners, the conference is going to reflect upon the higher education policy, its implementation, past success, issues, challenges and design the evidence based on approaches to meet future requirements.
“Broadly the technical sessions are around three thematic areas — faculty, funding and freedom. Around 175 VCs from 23 states and four countries — Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal — will be taking part in the conference. They will be presenting technical papers on management of public universities: issues and challenges, intensive use of technology, infrastructure: physical and digital, curricula and pedagogy, faculty, research and development etc,” he said.
All vice-chancellors from state universities of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh IGNOU vice-chancellor Prof. Ravindra Kumar, UGC additional secretary Pankaj Mittal among others will be attending the VCs meet.
