2 held for bid to sell old coin

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, APRIL 27

The Rachakonda special operations team arrested two persons on Thursday for trying to sell an antique coin at Nacharam.

The suspects were identified as Sanjay Pathak and Kuruva Charira Vittala Ajay Kumar.

SOT inspector K. Narsing Rao said that Sanjay had an antique coin which was around 100 years old and worth lakhs in the international market. Coming to know this Ajay devised a plan to sell it.

Before selling the coin they checked out the demand for antique coins in the local market.

“They browsed websites on antique coins and found that most of the websites and messages posted by fraudsters were exploiting people’s superstitions by claiming that antiques possessed mystical powers,” SOT inspector K. Narsing Rao said.

After the survey they fixed the price of the coin at `30 lakh.

Receiving a tip off the police arrested them while they were trying to sell the coin to a buyer. Pathak and Ajay Kumar were handed over to the Nacharam police for action. The coin was also seized.
