Dutee dashes to Asian GP silver

Gold for Neena, Neeraj qualifies for World event

Jiaxing (China), April 27: Neena Varakil stole the limelight from her more fancied compatriot­s to bag the gold in women’s long jump as India won six medals in the second leg of the Asian Grand Prix Athletics Meet here on Thursday.

Women sprinter Dutee Chand also did better than the first leg as she clinched a silver in women’s 100m dash with a timing of 11.57 secs. Viktoriya Zyabkina of Kazakhstan took her second gold of the Asian GP in 11.36secs.

Dutee had clocked 11.59 secs to bag a bronze in the first leg.

World junior record holder javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra qualified for the IAAF World Championsh­ips in London in August though he took a silver on Thursday, the same colour of medal he won in the first leg on April 24.
