- C.R. GOWRI SHANKER | DC

From being the venue of the Telangana movement to a lovely garden designed according to the principles of Vaastu, the headquarters of the ruling TRS party has come a long way.

After 11 years, Telanga na Bhavan got a major make over and the work is still continuing on the instructions of TRS pres ident K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Known to be firm believer in Vaastu and traditions, KCR got new lucky and “auspicious” plants planted in the courtyard of the TRS Bhavan located on Road No 10, Bhavani Nagar, Banjara Hills.

What catches the attention as one enters the sprawling party office are the exotic centuryold “Lucky Ficus” from Taiwan, olive trees from Italy and other exotic plants doting the garden. The exotic plants have been imported from Australia, Mexico, United States, Italy, Indonesia, China and Thailand among others.

Mr. Ramdev Rao, managing director, Unique Trees Private Limited, which undertook gardening of TRS Bhavan, said: “We have planted 35 exotic plants brought from 25 countries. Lucky Ficus brings you luck while olive is considered auspicious. It is believed that the olive tree repels the evil eye. They are 100 to 110-year-old trees. In fact, they are transplanted from our garden near Pragati Resorts in Shan kerpally.”

The olive tree is also regarded a symbol for peace. It appears on the national flags of seven nations, four US states and the flag of the Uni ted Nations. Lucky Ficus is a good luck plant that is supposed to keep the family together.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao spe nt an hour in the Bhavan on Tuesday, saw ongoing renovation works, includ ing the beautification of the courtyard and gardens, and instructed GHMC Mayor Bonthu Ramamohan Rao and other party leaders to ensure more green cover.

Telangana Bhavan was inaugurated on August 14, 2006, by Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader S. Ramadoss, KCR’s good friend. Since then, no maintenance wo rk was done on the 40,000 sq ft building and some sections were in bad shape.

KCR asked Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao and other party leaders to take up renovation of the building, enhance security along the compound wall and lay a new garden with exotic plants before the party’s foundation day celebrations. The `2 crore renovation in the main building is almost complete.
