Forces colony road blocked

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The Fifth Avenue Road that leads to the Armed Forces Officers Cooperative Housing Society has a board saying ‘No Thoroughfare’, which has been put up to prevent people from parking their cars here and creating nuisance.

In two incidents recently, residents of the colony, one of them a retired Air Marshal, were manhandled when they tried to prevent youths drinking or ‘making out’ in cars. Triangle Park inside the society also seems to attract love birds and drunkards.

The society approached the Malkajgiri DCP and obtained permission to install the sign board.

Society secretary Lieutenant Colonel P. Kamesh said the road leading into the colony (4th Avenue) where the 5th Avenue bakery is located has a lot of parked cars in the evening. “Youths drink and create nuisance at the beginning of the road. On weekends it is worse. In the morning, walkers have found condoms and beer bottles around the Triangle Park.”

He said that one evening two boys were sitting on a bike having a drink in front of the gate of a retired senior military officer. When the officer asked them what they were doing, they replied that it was government land. When he tried to take pictures, they threatened him. In another incident, four youngsters parked their car in front of an officer's house and when the owner wanted to take his car out, he could not do so. When he told them to move their car, they beat him up.
