C’garh officer reveals how tribal girls were tortured

Raipur, May 2: Even as the Chhattisgarh government is trying its best to fight the Maoist issue, one of its own officers has turned critical of the administration.

According to a report on cgkhabar.com, Raipur deputy jailor Varsha Dongre has questioned the government and security forces on the Maoist issue through a Facebook post. However, the post was later deleted.

“In my opinion we need to introspect so that we get an answer. People dying on both sides in the attack are our own. They are Indians. Therefore, irrespective of the fact who dies, we all are saddened.

“However, it is completely wrong to forcibly acquire the natural resources of tribals. Also, tribal women are subjected to worst kind of torture. Neither the government nor the security forces have a right to forcibly acquire the natural resources of the tribals,” the officer says in the post.

She said villagers are being jailed in false naxal cases.

The officer says if this all was done in an effort to end Maoism, for sure the aim is not realised.

The officer further narrated how young girls were being subject to abject torture in police stations.

“I have seen how girls of Mudiya Madia tribe, as young as 14, were tortured. They were not only stripped in the police station, but were also given electric shock on their wrists and other body parts.

“I have personally seen the scars of electric shock on their bodies and was shaken to the core. Later, I had asked the doctors for necessary treatment,” she said. The officer concludes her post by saying that neither one should commit any injustice nor should one tolerate it.
