MAN DUPES EX-SOLDIER, ARRESTED

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, MAY 9

Rachakonda cyber crime police arrested a cyber fraudster on Tuesday who duped an Army veteran by offering a job in an automobile firm. Police said that Mukesh Kumar Yadav, 27, impersonated himself as an employee of India Today Group and looted `16.7 lakh from the victim.

Police said the victim had taken voluntary retirement from the Army and was looking for a job in the private sector, and had uploaded his resume on job portals.

In August 2014, he received a call from an unidentified person, informing him that his resume had been shortlisted for the post of senior executive at Maruti Suzuki and asked him to deposit money for the verification process. They continued exploiting him till he paid `16.07 lakh into various bank accounts. Once the money was deposited in the accounts given by Mukesh Kumar Yadav, he switched off his mobile phone. Realising that he had been cheated, the victim lodged a complaint with Cyber Crime police.

Based on call data records, bank account details and location of the mobile phones, police traced Mukesh Kumar Yadav, 27, of Bihar, to New Delhi. He was arrested and brought to Hyderabad on transit warrant. He was produced in court. The court gave the police custody of Mukesh Kumar Yadav till May 12.
