City set to get another two elevated corridors

Traffic woes in Uppal and Amberpet areas are set to end with the Union Government according permission for two elevated corridors.

The proposals were pending for over a decade. Municipal administration and urban development minister K.T. Rama Rao has advised officials to complete the land acquisition within two months so as to expedite the project.

The minister said in a circular that the Telangana government accorded top priority to these projects. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao spoke to Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari over phone, KTR said, adding that he followed this up by holding talks with municipal and highways authorities on May 1 in New Delhi.

“Traffic studies were done on Warangal-Hyderabad road connectivity and the importance of this project to the state was explained to the Centre. Also, the Amberpet flyover proposal was pending for a long time without any progress. This project also got approval due to the state government’s efforts,” the minister said.

KTR asked the GHMC to complete the land acquisition for these two projects within two months. Also, with the President giving his nod for the state’s Land Acquisition Act, the formalities can be expedited.

The state government, he said, was ready to contribute money in case additional funds were required for land purchase.

The minister said the Detailed Project Report for the elevated corridor at Uppal was ready and a delegation from the state would be going to New Delhi on May 17 to take this matter forward.

The elevated corridor from Uppal to Nandanavanam Bhagyanagar is estimated to cost `960 crore, of which `330 crore is going for land acquisition.

Once built, this would end the traffic woes of vehicles coming to Hyderabad from Warangal and also ease the city traffic on Uppal, Secunderabad and L.B. Nagar routes.

The 1.4km flyover at Amberpet had been proposed during N. Chandrababu Naidu’s rule of the combined state and later when Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy was CM.

However, there was no progress due to paucity of funds.
