AB, credit wrongly debited amount

AB never identifies shop at which PoS transactions are made

-

The services of Andhra Bank are miserable. I have an SB Account, Number 14319, in the name of T. Thomas, with Andhra Bank, Marredpally, Code 0356. I made two debit card POS transactions at Eagle Fisheries, Secunderabad on April 30 this year as per the following details: 1. ICICI Bank 30/4/17 09/12/00 `313; and 2, HDFC Bank 30/4/17 09/14/42 `420. However, I received an additional SMS from AD-ANDBNK 0N 30/4/17 AT 09/44/31 saying that I had done another POS transaction of `313 and the money from my A/c has been debited. This is not true. I made only one transaction of this value as in (1) above.

In fact, even the card was swiped only once for this transaction and I had left the shop at 9.16 pm itself. I informed the same by two emails to Andhra Bank on Monday, 1 May, 6.30 am and 8.34 am. In addition, I also followed up with at least 10 telephone calls to the helpline numbers mentioned on the website. However, the calls were infructuous as they are always either ‘busy’ or ‘inaccessible’. I haven’t received any response from the bank so far, which is highly irresponsible. Another point worth noting is that Andhra Bank never gives the details of the shop/entity at which the PoS transactions are made, unlike all other banks. Due to this, the customer is unable to verify the veracity of the transactions.

I haven’t even received the A/c statement for April, 2017, which otherwise comes by the 5th of the subsequent month. This makes one suspect complacency/collusion by some internal staff. In this connection one may also note that a case of serious fraud was published in DC, as “Cyber fraudster held for robbing city techie” (DC, May 6, 2017). This shows that the personal details of the A/c holders have been compromised by the bank.

Another point to note is the bank's website has a lot of tracking cookies/scripts which are indeed security holes. This is not the case with other banks.

I request Andhra Bank to immediately credit `313 which was unauthorisedly and illegally debited from my A/c, send the latest A/c statement to me, and also an Action Taken Report, to prevent such frauds in future, including redesigning the website and closing all security holes.
