Groom dies in accident

3 of bridegroom’s family also die in mishap; 18 others hurt

A bridegroom and three others from his family died in a road accident in Suryapet at 3.45 on Wednesday morning, just hours before his marriage, which was to take place at 11 am.

T. Sesha Sainath, 23, and the marriage party of 26 people was heading towards the venue of the wedding in Charla village near Kothagudem village in a DCM van. They had parked their van on the side of the road when a paddy-laden truck rammed into the stationary van. Eighteen other people were injured. Sesha Sainath and his neighbour Damodar Naidu, 35, died on the spot from their injuries. The groom’s grandfathe­r T. Sathyanara­yana, 60, and his nephew, Akhil, were declared dead on arrival at a hospital in Suryapet.

A senior police officer from Suryapet police said the paddy laden truck, going towards West Godavari from Bhongir, rammed into the parked DCM, making it overturn. He said the victims sustained grievous injuries as they were flung into the air and some were trapped between the vehicles.

The driver of the lorry has been taken into custody. A case has been registered against him for causing death and injury due to negligence. Police is verifying if the driver was drunk while driving.
