NEW TS LAND ACT COMES INTO FORCE

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment) Act, 2016 has come into force in the state.

The state government issued a gazette notification to this effect on Wednesday, paving the way for implementation of the Act as “Act 21 of 2017”.

The new Act would make land acquisition easier and faster for the state government to take up irrigation projects and other development programmes.

The state government’s attempts to acquire land for various projects had hit several hurdles, since its earlier land acquisition polices in the form of GO 123 and other GOs were challenged in courts.

The government faced setbacks in courts besides facing severe resistance from farmers and Opposition parties.

The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment) Act, 2016 has come into force in the state.

With the implementation of new Act, the state government is hopeful of faster acquisition of land for irrigation projects, roads, highways and other infrastructure projects and provide better compensation package to farmers /landowners.

The Amendment Act was passed by Legislature on April 30.

It was reserved by the Governor on April 30 for the consideration and assent of the President.
