Rough Uber ride for city model

- KAMALAPATHI RAO H. | DC

Passengers are fed up with the misbehaviour of cab drivers in the city. Riddhi Bharwada, a model, recently had one such bad experience with an Uber driver and posted details of the episode on Facebook.

In her post, she said that she had booked an Uber from Somajiguda to Secunderabad on May 12, 2017.

“The driver was highly unprofessional and refused to go by the route I selected. When I insisted on the proper route, he asked me to shut up and let him do his job. He made multiple stops in spite of my refusal and asked for extra money. When I refused to do the same, he threatened to kick me out of the car and screamed at me saying customers like me are a shame,” she said.

On reaching her destination, when she confronted him, he proudly asked her to lodge a complaint against him.

“Uber did not take my complaint seriously. Uber promises to ensure the safety of their customers but I was verbally abused and threatened by the driver. There was no information about the action against the driver, but Uber simply credited back my money,” she said.

An employee of Uber Cabs said that the management was very particular about handling such complaints.

“We have received a complaint and are questioning the concerned driver. He will be blacklisted for a certain period if the allegation against him is proved,” he said.

S. Kishore, a cab driver and owner, said that drivers were not always to blame.

“Few customers regularly make complaints against drivers, and the management takes them seriously. False complaints lead to the loss of a job for three to four days. The Uber management disables the driver’s device until he meets with them. Drivers have to wait for four hours, for one or two days, to get an appointment with the concerned official. If they are able to satisfy the official with an explanation, their app is reactivated. Some customers make false allegations to get their fare back,” he said.
