Gurudwaras open doors to victims
London, May 23: Gurudwaras in Manchester are offering shelter to those affected and stranded by Tuesday’s deadly Manchester Arena blast.
“Sikh temples in Manchester, UK offering food & accommodation. They are open for all people. #PrayForManchester #ManchesterArena #England,” tweeted Harjinder S Kukreja along with the address of the four Sikh temples located in the vicinity.
Mancunians — residents of manchester — have been praised for their selfless bravery in the face of the terror attack which killed 22 people, many of them children, and wounded 59 others.
A spokesperson for Everything’s 13, a Sikh educational charity, told metro.co.uk that Sikhs in the area were simply doing their duty. A representative told the newspaper: “The gurudwaras of Manchester offering shelter and more to those impacted by the atrocities at the Manchester Arena are simply fulfilling their remit.”
“Gurudwara means “guru’s door” and are open to all people, regardless of faith, race or gender. The Sikh community has historically been one people in need could turn to. The sikhs gurus ordered sikhs to ensure people have access to basic needs and freedom from oppression.”
In what could be described as one of the worst terror attacks in Britain, at least 22 people were killed and 59 injured as a suspected suicide bomber carried out a carnage during an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England. A man found dead at the scene is thought to be the probable suicide bomber, according to reports.
