A week of rain to weaken summer

-

A thunderstorm late in the night on Saturday that hit several places in Hyderabad welcomed Ramzan. The Indian Meteorological Department predicted that thunderstorms with gusty winds will last up to Tuesday.

Besides, pre-monsoon showers have been predicted for the entire week. This is expected to bring about a dip in the temperatures.

Despite the rain and the cloudy skies, there was only a marginal fall in the city’s temperature, from 41º Celsius to 40.2ºC, The maximum temperature recorded in the state on Sunday was 42.8ºC at Ramagundam.

“There is a depression forming in Bay of Bengal, but since it’s moving towards Bangladesh, Telangana state won’t be influenced,” said Mr Y.K. Reddy, IMD director, Hyderabad.

AP experienced a second day of lower temperatures on Sunday. The mercury stood at between 35ºC and 38ºC in most parts of the state.

Jangamaheswarapuram, which traditionally is among the warmest places, recorded the highest maximum temperature at 41.2ºC. It was 35ºC in Vijayawada after tempeatures ranging from 42ºC to 45ºC a week ago. Places like Ongole, Bapatla, Machilipatnam, Nandigama and Narsapur witnessed moderate temperatures.

The depression is expected to promote the advance of the monsoon. The weathermen predicted pre-monsoon activity in AP in the next one to two days.
