TS ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES CRIPPLED: TD

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Telugu Desam (TD) leaders from Telangana said that academic activities at universities and schools in the state had been crippled since the TRS party had assumed power in 2014. Speaking about the dire condition of academic institutions in Telangana, TD leaders said that the government was planning to shut down thousands of schools, saying that it was because of inadequate student ratios.

K. Jayaram, a student from Osmania University (OU), said that students, especially those from OU, had played a crucial role in the Telangana movement. “We are now being extended a raw deal by the TRS government. If we question the government about jobs, cases are foisted on us. About 1,200 students sacrificed their lives for Telangana,” he said.

K. Pulla Rao, the TD general secretary said, “The Telangana state budget hasn’t allocated enough funds for the education sector. There is no mention of free education up to the post-graduation level. Faculty vacancies have also added to the problems of students. Once, Andhra Pradesh used to be the education capital of India. The quality of education has declined, and fee reimbursement is not provided to students on time. The TRS government has introduced education in the English medium in 3,417 government schools, and the State Government wants to increase that number to 10,000.”
