KASHMIR VIOLENCE

-

I fully support Army chief General Bipin Rawat’s statement on the law and order situation in Kashmir (Wish pelters fired at us, says Rawat, May 29). I request the Centre to help him save the lives of innocent people. It is strange that the Pakistani flag was draped on the bodies of militants. I hope that our Army under General Bipin Rawat would be able to control the mobs in Kashmir.

General Bipin Rawat’s statement looks like a statement instigating the already misguided rebels of Kashmir. This will provoke the protesters and hyper-active Army officers will take the law into their hands. I think we are only complicating situation there.

The Army Chief’s statement signals defeatism and may give wrong ideas to the stone throwers. He should think about strategies to bring the situation under control. The Army seems to be on the backfoot after the human shield incident in spite of the officer responsible putting up a brave front.

The assertion by General Bipin Rawat that the Army is facing a dirty war in J&K which has to be fought with innovative ways looks right. Those who are raising the bogey of human rights violation should introspect whether they are respecting the rights of soldiers. It is the job of the Army to control unruly mobs, and I hope they would be allowed to do that.
