PILOTS BOOKED FOR ‘OBSCENE REMARKS’

- NEHA L.M. TRIPATHI | DC

A slip seems to have cost the pilots dear as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday lodged a police complaint against 34 pilots for making ‘obscene remarks against a senior DGCA official’ on social networking sites.

The pilots had wrongly mentioned a joint director general’s designation as ‘joint director’ in their letter to the DGCA. The pilots called it ‘harassment’ by the DGCA and are likely to approach the Prime Minister Office in a day or two.

DGCA Chief B.S. Bhullar said, “DGCA has filed a complaint against them for making obscene remarks against DGCA officials on social media. It is for the police to take action on that.”

A slip seems to have cost the pilots dear as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday lodged a police complaint against 34 pilots for making ‘obscene remarks against a senior DGCA official’ on social networking sites.

The pilots were taken to the police station on Tuesday after reaching the DGCA office in Delhi. Ten of the pilots were from Jet Airways, while the remaining were from SpiceJet, Indigo and GoAir.

According to sources, the DGCA had called the pilots for a discussion on the notice period for pilots and captains. But when they reached the venue on Tuesday, they were picked up by the Lodhi Road police.

According to Chinmoy Biswas, Additional Commissioner of Delhi Police, the complaint was received in the morning and around 14 pilots were picked up at around 11 am and released around 1 pm.

Top DGCA officials claimed the pilots allegedly used highly abusive language on social media against senior DGCA officials and that the respective airline managements had even apologised to DGCA on this.

An airline official said, “The DGCA official’s reply maligns pilots, as he called them mentally sick. This has become an unnecessary issue.”
