Work those muscles before it’s late

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, JUNE 17

The leading cause of increasing obesity, diabetes, hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases is prolonged hours of sitting without taking a break and walking around and exercising body muscles. This is because of today’s work culture and not necessarily by choice.

“Cardiovascular diseases are directly linked to lack of recommended physical activity. People must be made aware of what is recommended activity and according to that, plan their schedules,” Dr B.G.Sudhakar, consultant cardiologist said.

“There are various fitness apps available which have helped people a lot. They remind people of their prolonged sitting status, necessity to walk and also calculate how many steps they have taken during the day which gives an approximate idea of their physical activity for the day,” he said.

With an increasing number of people preferring to spend time on the social media circuit than opt for outdoor activities, it has become imperative to curtail this on health grounds. Developing an interest in outdoor activities like cycling, badminton and other easy sports is important, say doctors.
