Some IPS officers to get increments The increased allowance may benefit 30 to 40 officers

-

For some IPS officers working in TS, this is real Bangaru Telangana time: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has recently approved a proposal to supplement the intelligence officers’ salary with whopping increments.

Currently, the salary drawn by these police officials is based on the 2007 pay scales. The 2015 revised pay scale is to be implemented with effect from January 1, 2016. The police department is asking the state government to structure increments and allowances on the basis of the 2015 pay scales.

With this, the pay structure of the IPS officials will change dramatically.

The CM has approved a proposal to pay 50 per cent more to IPS officers working in Greyhounds, Counter Intelligence, Octopus and Special Intelligence branches.

IPS officers working in ACB and Police Academy will be getting 30 per cent more, while those working in intelligence and CID will be getting an additional 25 per cent.

Sources in Chief Minister’s Office said that Mr Rao has signed the file and forwarded it to the finance department and orders are expected to be issued very soon.

CMO sources also said that the finance department had opposed this proposal.

According to IPS pay rules, the state government is only authorised to pay salaries as per the scales determined by the Centre.

The IPS pay rule states, “The amount of any special allowance which may be sanctioned by the state governments shall be `400 for posts in the junior time scale, `600 for posts in the senior time scale, `800 for posts in the junior administrative grade and `1,000 for the posts in the selection grade.”

This means state governments may sanction a maximum of `1,000 per month as special allowance. After the CM’s directive, IPS officers will get an additional `50,000 to `1.5 lakh per month as allowance.

The special wing of Greyhounds was created in the NTR regime. The then state government had taken a decision to pay 50 per cent more salary to Greyhounds officers as their lives were under constant threat, having to work against the Naxalites.

This was later extended to IPS officers also working in Counter Intelligence and other wings.

With the revision of the 2015 pay scales the minimum monthly salary to junior IPS offices is `1 lakh while a senior IPS officer gets `2.5 lakh. The finance department has reportedly stated that in the past the pay scales were very low but not any longer. After the 2015 pay scale revision, salaries had drastically increased and now there was no need to pay this incremental additional salary to IPS officers.

The finance department said that about 35 to 40 IPS officers stand to benefit from the decision of Mr Rao to pay the increased allowance.
