Strengthen Ayush on its own merit: Docs

In a representation by the Indian Medical Association, city doctors recorded their strong opposition to the integration of allopathy with AYUSH.

In a letter to the Union ministry of health and family welfare, a recommendation has been made for AYUSH being strengthened on its own merit and not be pushed along with allopathy or modern science as both are markedly different streams.

IMA president Dr K.K. Aggarwal said the medicinal stream of AYUSH must be grown on its own merit. “Why should a back door entry be given to it via modern medicine? We do not accept this and want the government to understand that all systems of science should be able to exist on their own merit. Let the patient decide where he wants to go and what suits best for him,” he said.

Doctors said that complications exist even in the Ayush system of medicine but that is not being highlighted.

Only side-effects of allopathic medicine are talked about and a lopsided image is being created deliberately.

Outcomes are studied and efforts made to improve the same and work on the side-effects. The system has an established effective treatment which makes patients opt for it. Let the other streams also compete in a similar manner and prove themselves.”
