CITY LOGS ON TO 1,000 WI-FI SPOTS

The state government launched the Hyderabad City Wi-Fi project on Tuesday, providing wireless networking technology at over 1,000 public places in Hyderabad. There will eventually be around 3,000 such hotspots, making this one of India’s biggest free public Wi-Fi initiatives.

Airtel, ACT Fibernet and Indus Towers will help create a digitally empowered Hyderabad.

Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, ITE&C Department, says the initiative will help business persons, shopkeepers, entrepreneurs, students, and tourists. Users can avail of the free wi-fi service both inside their homes and on the go at the designated hotspots.

Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, ITE&C Department, says the initiative will help business persons, shopkeepers, entrepreneurs, students, and tourists. The Cellular Operators Association of India is the technical advisor to the Government of Telangana.

“As partners in this project, the telecom industry will partner in the timely completion of the project and provide high speed internet access connecting citizens with education, commerce and opportunities,” said Rajan S. Mathews, director-general, COAI.

The service was launched on World Wi-Fi Day.
