12 women tie up staff, flee home

Twelve women who were res­cued from im­moral traf­fick­ing and were un­der­go­ing vo­ca­tional train­ing at a rescue home ran away af­ter as­sault­ing their train­ers and ty­ing them up in separate rooms at the home.

Po­lice said Ujwala Home lo­cated in Pad­ma­vathi­na­gar houses women who were ar­rested from var­i­ous parts of the city. It also pro­vides shel­ter and vo­ca­tional train­ing to res­cued sex work­ers.

On Thurs­day around 12 women as­saulted train­ers Lalitha, Sub­bal­ak­shmi, San­tosha and Shobha, tied them up with ropes and locked them up in separate rooms and fled by jump­ing the wall.

Po­lice found the women who ran away be­longed to West Ben­gal. A case has been reg­is­tered as per a com­plaint filed by home in- charge Anu­radha. Spe­cial teams have been set up to trace the women.
