The youths were accused of raising antiIndia slogans while bursting firecrackers following Pakistan’s win over India in the Champions Trophy final on Sunday. “We have dropped the sedition charge while retaining charges under section 153 (a) (disturbing communal harmony),” Burhanpur district superintendent of police RRS Parihar said. Raipur: A police jawan was killed by Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said on Thursday. Sukku Gota (30), the assistant constable posted at Farsegarh police station, went to a relative’s place in Ketulnar village on Wednesday night when a group of ultras stormed the place and attacked him with sharp edged weapons, killing him on the spot, Superintendent of Police KL Dhruv said. The attackers escaped. A combing operation has been launched in the region to nab the assailants, he said. Thiruvananthapuram: Cab aggregator Uber on Thursday said the company has removed from service the driver, who had allegedly misbehaved with a woman IT professional at Technopark here. The decision to remove him was taken based on an internal investigation in this regard, the company said in a statement. The behaviour of this nature from the driver has no place on the Uber app, it said. “What has been described is deeply upsetting. The behaviour of this nature has no place on the Uber app”, it said. “We investigated the matter and the driver partner was immediately barred from accessing the app,” Uber spokesperson said. Corporal punishment reared its ugly head once again when a Plus-2 student of a government higher secondary school here was critically injured after allegedly being beaten black and blue by some of his teachers. The 17-year-old lad, K. Prem Kumar, has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Krishnagiri government hospital on Thursday.

Sources here said that the boy, student of Shoolgiri government higher secondary school, started getting seizures in school and had fallen sick. The boy’s parents attributed it to the teachers beating him up severely for using the mobile phone inside the school campus.

“At around 2 pm I was in the school because of a phone call from the teacher about my son using mobile phone inside the school. He was found lying near the toilet and started having seizures. Three teachers stood at the place surrounding the boy without helping him," 45-year-old P.Krishnappa of Gangapuram village, near Shoolagiri and father of Prem Kumar later told reporters.

“Immediately he was taken to the Shoolagiri government hospital and then shifted to the Krishnagiri government hospital as his health condition has become worse,” he added.

According to Krishnappa, the boy has wounds all over his body.
