Marathon in the City next month

The Hyderabad Runners’ Society along with the government of Telangana State and Bharti Airtel announced the launch of seventh edition of the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon which will be held on August 19 and 20 in the city.

The 2017 edition of the running event, which is themed with the motto ‘Bhaag Lo, Apne Liye’ (run for yourself) has been divided into four events which will take place over two days — 5K Run (August 19), 10K Run, Half Marathon (21.095 km) & Full Marathon (42.195 km) on August 20.

More than 20,000 runners across the country and overseas are expected to participat­e in the event with around 10,000 already registered. The last date to submit the entries is July 15, which has to be done online.

The 5K run will be for family, children and beginners and will take place within the Hitec City while the 10K run will be from Hitec City to the Gachibowli Stadium. The Half Marathon and Full Marathon will commence from People’s Plaza (Necklace road) to the Gachibowli Stadium.

The entry fees for registrati­on under 5K run is `600, 10K - `900 and for Full & Half Marathon is `1200. Medals will be provided to all the finishers in the distinguis­hed categories while the winners registered under the ‘Elite Runner’ category will be awarded prize money.

Speaking at the occasion, Abhijeet Mandurkar, Race director emphasised the medical facilities and entertainm­ent for the runners along the course. “Our foremost focus is the safety of runners and there will be various medical stations with nurses and doctors to take care of the runners throughout.”

“We are also planning vibrant and elaborate entertainm­ent all along the race route by bringing some bands and folk dance groups from schools and colleges,” he added.
