CHINNARI SLIPS DEEP INTO WELL

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD JUNE 24

Officials said on Saturday that Chinnari, the 16-month-old who slipped into a borewell on Thursday, is suspected to be at around 215 feet. Water was detected at 145 feet in the well, making her location roughly 70 feet below the water level. Earlier, it was estimated that she was at about 50 feet.

Due to the digging that is being carried out parallel to the well resulting in vibrations, more mud has caved in and the child has probably slipped in deeper.

a high definition camera was sent in but it could not go beyond 22 feet and its lens were also covered with mud and silt.

Later, 3D cameras from a construction firm in Hyderabad were also called for on Saturday night to trace the baby’s location.

Transport minister P. Mahender Reddy said that the girl was last seen on Friday afternoon, before the motor was pulled up from the borewell. “But on Saturday, the cameras could not identify her. Only some stains on the inner walls of the well were captured. Despite water from the well being pumped out, there was no trace of the girl”, the minister said.

Meanwhile, a team of doctors are ready with emergency equipment to provide immediate medical assistance to the child after retrieving her from the well. The officials are also assuring the panic-stricken parents that they will bring out the child safely. Two days after 16-monthold Chinnari fell into an abandoned borewell, Cyberabad police registered a case against land owner T. Malla Reddy under IPC Section 336 for endangering life or personal safety of others. Malla Reddy is now absconding.

The one-acre piece of land at Ikkareddyguda tanda in Chevella, is said to be owned by Malla Reddy’s father Tulsannala Ramireddy.

After his father became old, Malla Reddy was developing the land.

He took permission to build a polyhouse for horticulture on the land, but had no permission for the borewell which he dug more than a year ago.

Police found that he did not find any water in the borewell, closed and abandoned it.

About 10 days ago, Malla Reddy opened the cover and lowered a motor into the borewell to check for water availability.

The absconding Malla Reddy could not find water but left the motor in the well and did not close it. Chinnari fell into it on Thursday.

Police found two more borewells on the same piece of land.

Malla Reddy had not taken permission even for these two borewells.

According to sources from the revenue department, no borewell in Chanuvelly has permission from the government.
