RAINS IN MAHABALESHWAR TO RAISE KRISHNA INFLOWS

The Central Water Commission is expecting good inflows in the Krishna river later this week as Mahabaleshwar, the origin of the river, has been receiving heavy rain.

A CWC official on Tuesday said that Mahabaleswar recorded 11.2 cm, 12.4 and 16.6 cm of rain in the last three days. “This will bring good inflow into the Almatti dam. It will take three days for the water to reach the dam,” said a senior official from the CWC (Krishna division).

However, there was no inflow into the Almatti dam on Tuesday, he said, adding that inflows were noted Kurudwada, a flood gauge station located between Mahabaleshwar and Almatti.

Skymet, a private weather forescasting agency, said heavy rain would continue in and around Mahabaleshwar till July 5. Jurala, the first project in TS on the Krishna, has received 5 tmc ft of water in the last week. This water came from the local rains in the catchment area of the Bhima river, a Krishna tributary, and heavy rain in Mahbubnagar. The Tungabhadra dam got a meagre inflow.
