Hyderabad Sailing week will flag off on Monday

The Hyderabad Sailing Week, Senior Multi Class Championsh­ip, which is jointly conducted by the EME Sailing Associatio­n, the Secunderab­ad Club and also the Laser Class Associatio­n of India, will commence from July 3 here in the Hussain Sagar Lake.

The popular sailing event in which around 200 participan­ts have already registered will be conducted in eight different categories which include five Olympic classes and the remaining will be in the Senior Multi Class.

There are no age restrictio­ns for the participan­ts.

“Hyderabad is a popular destinatio­n for sailing in our country and we are expecting around 230 entries including ladies, young children (also from Telangana). Around 22 women have already applied,” said Maj Gen Paramjit Singh, Vice-Commodore of EME Sailing Associatio­n.

On safety and emergency he said “We have many safety boats including the high speed ones to reach out to the participan­ts at the earliest. Along with that we will have live coverage of the race to keep eyes on sailors.”

“Many rescuers will already be there in the water and Ambulances are available in case of any emergency” he added.

The winners in each category will be awarded with a medal/ trophy along with a certificat­e recognised by the Internatio­nal Associatio­n.

The opening ceremony of the event will take place on Monday with E.S.L. Narasimhan (Governor of Telangana), B.V. Papa Rao (Advisor to Govt of Telangana state) and B. Venkatesha­m (Secretary to Govt of Telangana Youth Advancemen­t, Tourism & Culture Department) being the chief-guest.
