- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, JULY 4

TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao sought the help of Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind to develop the new state.

He said Mr Kovind’s victory was a foregone conclusion. Participating in a function organised to honour Mr Kovind, Mr Rao said that though the Telangana region was subjected to great injustice for the last few decades, it had made a mark for itself in terms of development and welfare.

Citing some achievements, Mr Rao said, “We have set a goal to achieve Bangaru Telangana, I honestly request you to use your good offices to help and cooperate in achieving this objective. We need your guidance,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Rao deputed his Cabinet colleagues to Begumpet airport for according a grand reception to Mr Kovind. Hundreds of TRS workers and leaders trooped into the airport premises and welcomed Mr Kovind.

The TRS had arranged hoardings and welcome arches for Mr Kovind. After the TRS meet at Jalavihar, Mr Kovind went straight to the Begumpet airport where Mr Rao, his Cabinet, MPs, legislators and party leaders gave him a send off, almost resembling the ceremonial send-off reserved for the President.

The YSRC had organised a meet for Mr Kovind at a star hotel to reaffirm their support for Mr Kovind. This meeting was held after the BJP and the TD had felicitated Mr Kovind. YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy received Mr Kovind at the entrance and touched his feet. Later, party MP V. Vijay Sai Reddy followed suit.
