HC orders doctor back on panel

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, JULY 7

Faulting the NTR University of Health Sciences for changing the internal examiner by succumbing to pressure from the students of the PG Medical (General Surgery) for the internal examinations, the Hyderabad High Court on Friday cancelled the internal examinations held from May 29 to June 1.

Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao while allowing a petition by Dr Deen Dayal Bung, professor and head of the department of general surgery of Osmania Medical College, quashed the orders issued by the university appointing another professor after replacing the petitioner.

The judge directed the university to appoint another team of internal examiners including Dr Bung and complete the internal examination within 4 weeks.

Allowing the petition the judge said that if students were allowed to decide how the examination was held, it would create chaos in education.

The judge said it was the duty of the ViceChancellor to main standards and uphold the dignity of the teaching profession. In this case, the ViceChancellor has had abdicated his responsibilities, the court said.

Dr K. Lakshmi Narasimha, counsel for the petitioner, said the varsity had nominated Dr Bung as examiner along with three other professors, but the V-C had succumbed to pressure from the students and replaced Dr Bung with Dr A. Srinivasa Chary.
