Kadapa woman held in Sharjah

-

A 46-year-old housewife from Kadapa district, who went to Saudi Arabia to work as a domestic help, has been stranded at Sharjah Airport for more than 20 days.

Pediveti Ramanamma travelled to Saudi Arabia to work as a domestic help, but due to lack of relevant documents, she was sent back. Her agent brought her to Sharjah where she was detained by airport authorities.

Ramanamma is a native of Rayachoti in Kadapa district. After her husband passed away some years ago, she took up the family responsibility. Around seven years ago, she had gone to Kuwait and worked there for five years as domestic help until her sons Nagaraju and Rajendra grew up and started working.

Two months back, an agent by name Anjaiah offered her a job as a domestic help in Saudi Arabia, which she readily accepted. After completing the formalities, she took a flight to Saudi Arabia from New Delhi. On landing there, Saudi emigration officials found her documents were not valid and apprehended her. Later, with the help of her agent, she arrived in Sharjah on her way back home but was detained by the emigration officials at the airport. She was moved to the detention centre.

"Since then, she has been kept in the centre. The agent is not bothered about bringing her back. We are worried about her safety, because all the documents are with the agent who says that she is safe and will return safe. We no longer trust him as he had cheated her," said her elder son Nagaraj.

Both her sons appealed to the Government of AP to rescue their mother and help her to return safely.
