The mind-body connect

- Amrit Sadhana Amrit Sadhana is editor Osho Times International. She facilitates meditation workshops based on Osho insights around the country and abroad.

When people turn to meditation the first thing they want to think about is spiritual experiences. Light and colours,

chakras opening and kundalini power rushing upwards to the crown and so on. But the basic foundation of meditation is completely ignored: the body. If you have a healthy and sensitive body half of your tensions are gone.

Our conscious mind represents only about one-tenth of our reality. The unconscious layers of the mind are far greater. In a larger sense, we have all lost touch with our ability to tune into the subtle messages that our bodies are sending us at every moment just because of the sheer noise and busy-ness of our everyday lives .

Osho has used a relaxation meditation technique to reconnect and strengthen the natural harmony of the body-mind. Just talk to your body consciously and witness the magical results. The magic is that in the very process of becoming conscious, previous unconscious attitudes begin to lose their power over you and you can begin to make more life-affirmative choices for ourselves. Once this new foundation is established, you find that you have become more aware of the body and its real needs.

It is also a healing process for chronic pain and other discomforts in the body. But we have forgotten to listen to them — we have become deaf from the outside noise. So then the body resorts to stronger language to get our attention — starting from simple headaches and other body pains, and progressing to migraines, sleep disturbances and chronic pains, particularly on the back and stomach.

This meditation shows you how to listen to your body again. Say, “Thank you,” and restore your sense of well-being.
