TS SEEKS CENTRAL AID FOR SCHOOLS
If the Centre extends its financial assistance up to Class 10, the state government would consider upgrading Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya into junior colleges, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari said on Monday.
The state has 391 KGBVs with 71,500 students, and another 84 schools will be opened in the newly created districts, Mr Srihari, who holds the education portfolio, said.
“I am very interested in the development of KGBVs and I am fighting to get more schools in the state. We are focussing on developing KGBVs due to which enrollment has increased”.
KGBVs have been strengthened in the three years since the formation of TS, and there is high demand for schools in the state. Students from private school are shifting to governament schools these days, he claimed.
“Over 10,000 students in corporate schools have joined in government schools this year as we are strengthening the government schools and introducted English medium,” he said.
Mr Srihari said that every time he met Union minister Prakash Javadekar, he requests him strengthen to KGBVs. The Centre is providing financial assistance to Classes 6 to 8. The state government pays for Classes 8 to 10.
He said that after he took over, the education department had released `306 crore for infrastructure and spent `242 crore for maintanance. For the protection of girls in KGBVs we have also put CCTV cameras in all 391 KGBVs. We are providing 17,700 dual desks in all KGBVs.” he said.
