1st time Nigerians held in sex trade

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD JULY 24

Police say this is the first time that Nigerian nationals have been caught running a human trafficking operation. The operation has been running for more than two years in Yapral.

The trafficking in Nigerian women for the flesh trade here came to light when two teams of the SOT - one working on drugs and the other on trafficking, discovered that the same gang was involved in both crimes.

These women come to Hyderabad on visit visas. These traffickers give pink amphetamine tablets to these women during rave parties and lure them into trafficking. The tablets provides stamina to stay active during intercourse for long hours.

Nigerian John Paul who came to India in 2014 on a six month tourist visa and stayed on illegally, was arrested by the Goa police for drug peddling and overstaying in 2016, and after serving a three-month prison sentence, he was released and moved to Hyderabad. He lived in a flat belonging to fellow Nigerian Okereke Cyril Anezi and started supplying drugs and Nigerian women for the flesh trade. He operated from rented flats in Kushaiguda, Neredmet, AS Rao Nagar and Jawahar Nagar, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said. Around 50 Nigerian women were found to be lured into the racket. These women were paid and let off after the work. The clients were invariably Indian men.

“After fixing a deal with a client to supply a Nigerian women, one of the gang members would take her to the customer and after completing the work, bring her back to the shelter,” an investigating official said. The gang used different codes for supplying drugs and women and maintained a record of each transaction in their diaries.
