“After Vamshidhar adopted the village, he donated 500 LED streetligh­ts; about 80 tractorloa­d of gravel was brought to repair the government school ground. Proposals for a water plant and a proper drainage system were also put in place. More people like him must come forward to help their villages,” said sarpanch Balne Anuradha.

Vamshidhar says that though he received most of his education in Hanamkonda and Narsampet, he has a strong bond with his village. “My parents always encouraged me to help the needy, hence, I took up social service seriously and began from my own village. I knew that if I did not take the initiative, no one else would and the village would remain backward.” Jana Sena chief and actor Pawan Kalyan met Chief Minister N. Chandrabab­u Naidu for about an hour on Monday at Secretaria­t. Mr Naidu cancelled his scheduled tour of East Godavari district to meet Mr Kalyan.

It is learnt that they discussed the Kapu movement and other important political developmen­ts in the presence of officials from health, rural developmen­t, labour and employment, finance, planning and other department­s.

The officials had explained the government’s measures for the victims of kidney disease in Uddanam village in Srikakulam district. The manner in which the presentati­ons were given was as if the government was giving an explanatio­n to Mr Kalyan.

Mr Kalyan’s vehicle was allowed to enter the Secretaria­t through the gate used by the Chief Minister to reach Block-1. There was some criticism at the vehicle, being surrounded by bouncers, being allowed to the portico of Block-1 of the CMO.

A CMO official said the government had given undue importance to Mr Kalyan, While this was a little embarrassi­ng, they were helpless as political reasons compelled the CM to do so.

A Cabinet Minister said the the political scenario and the talk of caste dominance had led to Mr Naidu rolling out the red carpet. He expressed the hope that Mr Kalyan would continuing supporting the TD in 2019 elections.

At the same time, Mr Kalyan talked of getting along with the government in resolving Uddanam kidney disease issue.
