The Central government has agreed to allot the Bison polo grounds land to the Telangana government for the construction of new secretariat buildings. Sources said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is planning to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation for the new secretariat buildings.

The state government and the defence authorities have reached an understanding on exchange of land.

The state government needs 160 acres of defence land for construction of two flyovers and the secretariat buildings. In lieu of this, the state government will give 593 acres of land at Jawaharnagar to the defence department.

After valuation of these lands, the defence department has asked the Telangana government to pay `93 crore in addition, as the land it is receiving from the defence department is greater in value than the land it is surrendering.

The state government has agreed to this.

The defence department will circulate the file regarding the exchange of land to the law and finance departments for their approval.

The central government will take the final decision at a cabinet meeting.

On the land it will get from the defence establishment, the state government proposes to construct two flyovers to ease traffic congestion on Rajiv Rahadari and National Highway 44 which leads to Nagpur.

The flyover from Paradise to Outer Ring Road (ORR) will require 60 acres of land and the Paradise to Bowenpally flyover requires 40 acres. In addition to this, the state government has asked the defence department for the 60 acres of the Bison polo ground for the construction of new secretariat buildings.

In fact, the 593 acres at Jawaharnagar is already being using by the defence department for short range firing and other military purposes and had been leased to the defence authorities.
