Tough collector for city

Dr Yogita Rana irked TRS with probe into fund use

- DC CORRESPONDENTS HYDERABAD / NIZAMABAD, AUG. 16

The state government on Wednesday transferred Nizamabad collector Dr Yogita Rana — winner of the best collector award — and posted her to Hyderabad. This caps after a year-long campaign by elected representatives from the ruling party demanding her transfer.

The reason for their ire was Dr Rana ordering third party inquiry into works proposed by legislators and Council members using their Constituency Development Fund. They saw this as an “insult”.

Dr Rana had to face open criticism from TRS leaders in zilla parishad general body and district review committee meetings. Dr Rana’s work ensured that Nizamabad district stood first in the state for successful implementation of the Haritha Haram programme. In addition, she took the initiative to successfully implement the government’s flagship programmes.

Her implementation of e-NAM, the electronic marketplace, at the Nizamabad agriculture market yard brought her national recognition and she was presented the ‘best collector’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dr Rana maintained a good rapport with Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha and was said to be in the good books of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

She had completed two years at Nizamabad district and reportedly requested a transfer. Dr Rana’s husband Manick Raj is the collector of Sangareddy district.

As of now, no IAS officer as been posted as Nizamabad collector.

A non-cadre officer, joint collector A. Ravinder Reddy, will be in-charge collector. Following Dr Rana’s transfer, Ms M. Prashanti has been relieved from full additional charge as Hyderabad collector.
