TEST IN ENGLISH UPSETS GURUKUL ASPIRANTS

-

Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu has advised the Chairman of the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) to test the Telugu skills of aspirants appearing for service commission examinations. Meanwhile, people are unhappy about the fact that English has been made compulsory for aspirants who wish to become junior lecturers of Telugu or Sanskrit at Gurukul educational institutions.

The preliminary round of the Gurukul examinations will have questions from subjects including general studies, general abilities and basic English proficiency. Candi-dates will be shortlisted in a 1:15 ratio, based on their performance in the prelims, to appear for the main examinations. K. Manvatha Roy, chairman of the Unemployed JAC, says, “Most aspirants who apply for these exams come from rural backgrounds, because of which they find it difficult to appear for subjects which are mandatorily examined in English.”

Ganta Chakrapani, chairman of the TSPSC, says, “We already have a policy in place as per which we have to conduct Telugu skill tests for all new employees within two years of recruitment. Usage of the Telugu language should be made mandatory in the office premises, and more importance should be given to it.”

“The honourable VicePresident has given the Telugu states good advice. We will follow it in the right spirit,” he added.
