One hurt as hospital fan falls on her

-

A ceiling fan at the Koti Maternity Hospital fell on J. Anusaya, 55, on Saturday night. Anusaya was attending to her niece Ch. Mamata who gave birth to a child at the hospital.

Ch. Ramesh, the husband of Mamata said, “She was sleeping on the floor and the fan fell on her. She has injuries on the head and feels giddy. We are asking doctors to refer her to Osmania General Hospital where a neurologist can check her. But they are insisting that she must be kept under observation and if required will be referred.”

Ramesh says that his wife had just delivered and they will stay for three more days at the hospital. He complained to the doctor about the fan falling and was told that the administration department will look into it on Monday morning.

Ramesh says, “She is constantly complaining of giddiness. I am insisting on her being examined by another specialist.”

The duty resident medical officer on condition of anonymity explained, “A note has been made and the administration department will look into it. We have examined the patient. The injuries are on the outer area of the head. The giddiness is due to the trauma. Two days rest will help her. But as she is constantly complaining, we are arranging to send her to Osmania General Hospital for scanning and neurologist advice.”

The falling of the fan means that maintenance at the hospital must be checked from time to time. Failure in sticking to the protocol on attending to complaints has resulted in this incident, explained sources at the hospital. No other attendants were injured as they were sleeping in the far corner near the wall.
