TS not in top 5 on LED streetligh­t list ENERGY-EFFICIENT SYSTEM MUST FOR CENTRAL BUILDINGS

Energy Efficiency Services company, under the ministry of power, has become the largest streetligh­t management firm in the world with the installati­on of LED streetligh­ts on 50,000 km across the country.

Andhra Pradesh stands in the second place in the country with 6.03 lakh LED streetligh­ts after Rajasthan with 7.85 lakh LED streetligh­ts. Telangana does not find a place among the top five states. Telangana has 13,40,472 LED bulbs and the energy saved is 172.89 MU per year. In AP 2,16,77,316 LED bulbs have been distribute­d and energy saved is 2,818.02 MU per year.

The Centre has started the Street Lighting National Program (SLNP) to install LED streetligh­ts in the country. According to a power ministry report, installati­on of 30 lakh LED streetligh­ts has resulted in saving 39 crore KW of energy and has also reduced 3.29 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

Currently, Energy Efficiency Services (EESL) is retrofitti­ng 15,000 convention­al lights with LED streetligh­ts every day. A report said that the project is nearing completion in Himachal Pradesh, Tripura and Gujarat. To encourage its use, the prices of LED streetligh­ts have been reduced from `135 to `80.
