JUST VERDICT

The CBI court’s verdict against Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh should be a lesson to all crooked godmen who defraud the public (Jail will be Ram Rahim Dera for next 20 years, August 29). The punishment awarded to him is fully justified. Many innocent women who put their faith in him were exploited and duped. The 20 years jail given to him is a kind of compensation to the people who were put to a lot of sufferings by him. At last justice has been done in the rape of two women by fake baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim in Haryana. Even though it took 15 long years to gather evidence and establish the charges against the fake baba, the CBI has successfully completed its great task. I hope the appeals filed by the baba against the judgement would also be rejected by higher courts. Katuru Durga Prasad Rao Hyderabad The judgement awarded by the CBI court against fake baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim has satisfied the public’s sense of justice. At last the long arm of the law has caught up with Gurmeet Ram Rahim. In the courtroom the baba proved that he was after all not a god, but just an ordinary human being. The sentencing of Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim to 20 years in prison is a great victory for justice. Hats off to the two women who showed the courage to complain against this fake baba who was nurtured by all political parties. Once again the Indian judiciary has stood as a rock against criminals. The judge who pronounced the judgement sentencing Gurmeet Ram Rahim to 20 years in prison must be complemented for his courageous stand against the tremendous pressure exerted by baba’s followers. This case reminds me of Dr Abraham Kovoor’s book

Begone Godmen in which he describes the frauds of fake babas. The verdict against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim is a remarkable decision taken by the CBI court against a culprit who played with a lot of lives. A man who had no concern for human values does not deserve leniency. I wonder how the culprit’s lawyer can appeal to the HC for a reduction in the jail term when the fake baba snuffed out a lot of lives.
