BALAYYA DOES A POKIRI FOR FANS
Director Puri Jagannadh had long been waiting for a good break after a string of failures. This time he joined hands with Nandamuri Balakrishna for the film Paisa Vasool.
Though the film had a crazy combination and many surprises, everyone believed that the director would stage a grand comeback with this film. He introduced actress Musskan Sethi with this film, while Shriya plays another female lead.
The story involves around the Indian external intelligence agency RAW’s attempts to nab international mafia done Bob Marley. RAW, which is an acronym for the Research and Analysis Wing, was looking for a person who could join the mafia gang and exterminate its boss Bob. They zero in on Theda Singh (Balakrishna), a reckless and fearless person, as he fits their bill and hence becomes an undercover agent.
In the meantime, he falls in love with Harika (Musskan), who stays with her mother (Pavitra). While enquiring about her sister, who had gone missing in Portugal, she comes to know that her sister was killed in Portugal by Theda Singh. The story thereafter dwells on who is Theda Singh and what is his connection to Portugal.

Vasool offered the director a great opportunity to showcase his old talent, it appears that he didn’t make use of it. He has just followed the pattern of his earlier blockbuster Pokiri, but with a clichéd subject and screenplay.
The director focused only on Balakrishna’s characterisation and his punch dialogues, which obviously could be big hit with his fans.
The first half of the film and Balakrishna’s character is interesting, but the second half is complete predictable and the director lost his thought completely. He also aims to attract the front benches and also the fans of Balakrishna, which he is successful. When it comes to the performance, it is Balakrishna’s show throughout the film. He perfectly fit into the character which he did with energetic manner. Though it’s a not a great role to do, but it is sure that he didn’t play this kind of role in his last hundred films. His dialogues and mannerisms are a treat to his fans. Of the three female leads, Shriya got a better role as BBC journalist and she is dignified. Musskan is good-looking, but nothing to do as she didn’t get much role to perform. Another girl Kyra Dutt plays as commissioner and also as item girl. She didn’t look at all as a cop, but it’s Puri Jagannadh film, so he makes everyone glamorous. Vikramjit and Sreekanth are the bad guys, but they are not strong enough. Kabir Bedi played as RAW chief. Ali and Prudhvi’s comedy is not up to the mark and they are a complete waste.
Anup Rubens provided the music and most of the songs are massy. The remix song from late NTR’s old film is good. Balakrishna, too, sang one song which is going to enthral his fans. Cinematography is just okay. Dialogues by Puri Jagannadh are well-written and especially for Balakrishna, who rendered it in his style.
Finally, Paisa Vasool is another version of Pokiri directed by the same director Puri Jagannath. The film offers nothing new, except showing Balakrishna in a complete makeover. Like a dialogue in the film where Balakrishna rendered, that no one touches him except fans and family, not outsiders. So this film is strictly for his fans, not for outsiders!
