■ SHARATH claimed that he had started getting hate mails even before the profile was created as he supported Prof Kancha Illaiah.

Sharath Naliganti, a Telugu PhD scholar from Osmania University (OU), filed a case in the Osmania University police station after he received a death threat.

It has been alleged that a few students from right wing created a fake profile on Facebook in Sharath’s name and posted derogatory comments on different castes.

Sharath said, “I would never use such language. All castes have been targeted and the status proclaims that I will teach a fitting lesson to all those who step outside their boundaries.”

He further stated that a lot of students came to attack him on Friday night after reading the status at Nizam campus where a seminar was organised. “The status was widely shared and I was tagged in many posts which verbally abused me and also threatened me,” added Sharath.

Ashok Reddy, the station house officer of Osmania police station, said, “We have already started our enquiry by questioning the students who messaged Sharath or threatened him. The case has been filed under the IT Act.”

Sharath claimed that he had started getting hate mails even before the profile was created as he supported Prof Kancha Illaiah. He had also organised a rally and gathered students in support of the professor.

Progressive party forces, Dalit groups, members from the minority communities and teachers have pledged their support to Sharath.

Sharath is a native of Warangal and has contested in the Amberpet Assembly constituency.
