COMPLAINT AGAINST TOP BRASS OF NIIT

The Neredmet police have registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust against the top management of NIIT Limited, a leading computer training company.

The first information report was based on a complaint filed by Major Pankaj Rai (retd), who runs Emergent Methology Private Limited at Vayupuri in Sainikpuri as an NIIT franchisee.

The FIR read, “The accused company has cheated the complainant by charging excessive royalty courseware fees for courses offered. In April 2017 the course fee chargeable from a student was `4,500 and royalty paid was 42.67 per cent, that comes to `1,920. In May 2017 the course fee was reduced to `4,000 as against the royalty paid which was 47.5 per cent. That amounts to `1,900. In July 2017, the royalty paid was 48 per cent. This has been done using inhouse software of NIIT company.” Maj. Rai (retd) alleged that while rounding off `5,017, the company rounded it off to the higher side. “Due to this cheating, complainant alleged he lost a few lakhs of rupees.”

Neredmet police named NIIT founder and chairman Rajendra Pawar, co-founder Vijay Thadani, CEO Sapnesh Lalla, company vice presidents Sunil Dahiya and Taposh Ray and company secretary Deepak Bansal as accused. NIIT has about 400 franchisees. Maj. Rai has filed another complaint with the Competition Commission of India against NIIT in which he said the company had struck a deal with the franchisee but was having direct tie-ups with schools to conduct courses.
