Cops find fault with BHU admin

- DC CORRESPONDENTS NEW DELHI/ LUCKNOW, SEPT. 26

After being slammed by the Opposition for being “insensitive” the BHU V-C and UP government have ordered an inquiry into the violence in Banaras Hindu University last week.

The BHU vice chancellor Girish Chandra Tripathi who was criticised for saying “if we listen to every girl we can’t run an University” has also come under pressure after the Varanasi commissioner who blamed the varsity administration for the violence. Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission has also sought an explanation over last weekend’s violence on campus.

The V-C incidentally has also been flayed by the Opposition parties for his “RSS links”. There are reports stating that the VC had been associated with the RSS for the past four decades and was known to be a close associate of RSS icon Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya’s grandson Justice (retd) Giridhar Malaviya.

Meanwhile, an inquiry report on the incidents on the campus has blamed the university administration for the violence. Varanasi commissioner Nitin Gokaran, who conducted the inquiry, has said that the BHU authorities did not deal with the victim’s complaint in a sensitive manner and did not handle

the situation on time. The vice-chancellor has rebutted the charges while the state government has announced a probe into the incidents.
