Case on Taj Vivanta for charging `590 for 2 bottles of water

Hyderabad: The legal metrology department slapped a case on Taj Vivanta for charging a customer `590 for two bottles of water. The MRP of the bottles were `60 each. This included `45 charged as GST.

“We have acted on repeated complaints from consumers who are burdened with this malpractice,” says Mr Bhaskar Reddy, assistant controller with legal metrology. The hotel has been charged under Packaged Commodities Rule 18 (2) along with Section 18/36 of Legal Metrology act 2009. The hotel can pay a minimum fine of `25,000.
